Ruth Ann Grissom grew up on a farm in
Montgomery County and earned degrees in
journalism and social work at UNC Chapel
Hill. She’s been having a passionate affair
with the Big Bend for 25 years. e-mail:

C.M. Mayo was born in El Paso, Texas. She is
the author of several books on Mexico, and a
widely published poet and translator of Mexican
literature. Her collection of poetry, METEOR,
won the Gival Press Award. In 2017 she was
inducted into the Texas Institute of Letters.
