Lost in the Cereal Boxes

If you visit Fort Stockton and see a mural of a horny toad reading the Cenizo Journal next to a screaming frog – a picture that marries Bob Ross and Dr . Seuss – that was me .
Growing up , I was the kid who got lost staring into the artwork printed on the back of cereal boxes . So that ’ s how I describe my artwork : cereal box-esque . I paint vibrantly animated images , hoping the viewer gets lost as I once did .
It ’ s not always wacky , but I aim for my art to be colorfully distinct . Whether it ’ s giant Loteria cards or a cat holding a churro , I like to keep it interesting .
Since my medium is mostly spray paint , the process is simple : sketch , paint and then paint some more . It takes extra effort to call
a mural complete , because I naturally want to add more than what was commissioned .
This year , I still have more giant Loteria cards to paint and a request to do a two-pack of notoriously famous Hip-Hop artists ( pun intended ). I ’ m also preparing to sell some original pieces at the French Co . Grocer in Marathon .
It was a treat to paint the Cenizo Journal and tip my hat to Tom Curry ’ s art on the cover of the Fall 2023 issue . My three favorite sightings in Fort Stockton have been : horned lizards , lush green grass , and the Cenizo Journal – so I painted a mural combining all the three . The screaming frog was for shock value .
